The Justice Department announced Friday that three men with ties to Iran have been indicted in connection with a plot to hack former President Donald Trump's campaign.
According to a federal indictment unsealed Friday afternoon, three suspects are named in the case: Masoud Jalili, Seyed Ali Aghamili, and Yasar Baragi.
According to the indictment, the three men face a long list of charges, including: Conspiracy to obtain information from protected computers. Get something of value by cheating. Fraudulent acts using the authentication function. commit aggravated identity theft; tampering with access devices; Committing communication fraud while registering a false domain.

The three hackers, who allegedly worked for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, “used spear phishing and social engineering techniques to target and compromise the accounts of current and former U.S. government officials and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. He is said to have been involved in an extensive hacking campaign to Media, non-governmental organizations, and individuals associated with U.S. political campaigns. ”

Last week, the United States revealed that Iranian hackers had obtained information about the Trump campaign and had been attempting to distribute it to Biden campaign officials and media outlets since June.

The federal government has acknowledged that it has been a specific and repeated target of Iran since the Trump campaign ordered the killing of former commander of the Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani.
Trump was briefed on Tuesday about a “real and concrete threat” from Iran to assassinate the Republican presidential nominee, his campaign said.
Trump campaign communications director Stephen Chan said in a press release that Iran's aim to assassinate President Trump is part of the Islamic Republic's efforts to “destabilize and cause chaos in the United States.”

“Intelligence officials have confirmed that these sustained and coordinated attacks have intensified over the past several months, and law enforcement officials from all agencies are working hard to protect President Trump and prevent election interference. We are working on it,” Chan said.
