Justin Fields offers candid response when asked to compare Steelers’ coaching to Bears’: ‘It’s not close’

Quarterback Justin Fields has had ups and downs throughout his 40-game tenure. chicago bearsHowever, he seems to have found his footing in Pittsburgh with the Steelers.

The Bears finished below .500 in each of Fields' three seasons.

A variety of factors have contributed to the lack of success in recent years, including how the roster has been constructed. However, substandard coaching appears to have been one of the franchise's shortcomings.

Fields worked under several different head coaches and offensive coordinators during his time in the Windy City. After Matt Nagy left Chicago in 2021, the Bears hired Matt Eberflus.

Eberflus hired Luke Getzi as offensive coordinator in 2022, but he was fired after last season. “For me, the growth and development of the offense needed to be better than it was right now,” Eberflus said at the time of Goetzee's firing.

The 25-year-old Fields' time in Chicago came to an end when the team agreed to a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March. The Bears received a conditional draft pick in exchange for Fields.

Appearing on teammate Cam Heyward's showNot just soccer” On the podcast, Fields candidly answered a rapid-fire series of questions.

Asked whether he would choose a coaching staff for the Bears or the Steelers, Fields quickly replied, “Pittsburgh. Not even close.”

Fields appeared in 13 games in 2023 and finished the season with 2,562 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 657 yards.

Despite his performance last season, Fields and the Bears parted ways. During his meeting with Hayward, Fields also revealed that he is aware of three teams that are interested in him.

Fields said the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders were in contention to sign him during the offseason.

“I don't know about every team, but we didn't want to do that because there were a lot of teams that already had their quarterbacks locked in,” Fields said. “The Chargers were one. The Ravens were the other. The Raiders, they talked a little bit. … I don't know who else was there.”

Fields and the Steelers will look to remain undefeated this weekend when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts.
