Karl-Anthony Towns said playing for Knicks a ‘childhood dream’

Karl-Anthony Towns once spoke passionately about his chance to play for the Knicks.

He will soon be living that reality.

Towns, who the Knicks acquired from the Timberwolves in a blockbuster deal, sat down with The Post's Steve Servey for a Q&A before the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery.

Towns, who grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey, was widely expected to be a No. 1 draft pick after playing one season at Kentucky.

And the Knicks had the second-best odds of getting the top pick.

Towns said his dream is to play for his hometown team.

“It's an honor to play for that organization, not just as a player, but as a Knicks fan,” Towns said at the time. “I think it's a childhood dream to be rooting for the Knicks all your life and the next thing you know, you hear some organization calling your name and you go out there and give your all. I think it's really cool to be able to play for them, and I'm really honored and happy.”

The Knicks infamously drafted Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth pick and passed on Towns, who went to the Timberwolves.

Towns, 28, spent nine seasons with the Timberwolves before Friday's surprising news.

The Knicks will send Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Daquan Jeffries and a lottery-protected first-round pick from the Pistons to the Timberwolves as part of the deal, the Post's Stephen Bondi confirmed.

At the time, Towns felt he was ready to be seen as a “savior.”

“You know? I think it comes with the territory,” Towns said. “That comes with the territory. We have to take that stress head on, and I feel like I'm ready for that. If that has to be my role. , I don't think that's going to be my role, but I think I just need to help my teammates.

“I'm going to work hard to give them the best chance to win, but not as a savior and you can't do everything alone. That's why no one is greater than anyone. We're all helping each other to reach one common goal, which is to win the championship and win the game.”

Towns also revealed her favorite place in New York City.

“I like the scenery,” Towns said. “Times Square is amazing. I love going to New York and eating pizza because I can walk around. I played in Rucker Park once when I was younger and it was awesome.

“There is so much history behind New York that it would take a lifetime to understand it all.”
