Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota) said Sunday on ABC's “This Week.” Tim Walz (D-Minn.) plays a character who is described as a “down-to-earth, good, down-to-earth guy.”
“Tim was a total disaster in Minnesota,” Emmer said. “What happened was that until people got to know him and his policies, he had a very hard time being a down-to-earth, nice, down-to-earth guy. I was good at it,” he said. Tim was a complete disaster in Minnesota. And what happens is that he's very good at being this folksy, nice, down-to-earth guy until people get to know him and his policies. I don't know if you know this, but he's kind of a folksy, AG-friendly outdoorsman throughout the Congressional District who's played this character for several years, and he's been in both gubernatorial races. He lost that position and almost lost the last gubernatorial election. That's a 10 point difference. When you get to know the real Tim Walz, he looks like Gavin Newsom in a flannel shirt, which is why he's not well-liked. ”
When asked about the Republican vice presidential nominee, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Emmer said: He can talk about the economy that Donald Trump rebuilt and Harris and Biden destroyed. He can talk about the borders Trump established and the borders they broke. He can talk about peace and stability around the world, which they have no idea about. They caused this mess, so once Tim Walz realizes that he's just trying to get off topic and do all this commonplace stuff, he's going to hold him accountable. I think JD can do a great job. ”
