Chiefs Fear Rashee Rice Tore ACL After Collision with Patrick Mahomes

To say that this play did not unfold as planned would be a gross understatement.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes brought down a well-covered Travis Kelce in the first quarter of a game against the Chargers, and the ball went into the hands of Los Angeles defensive back Christian Fulton.

As Fulton attempted to return the pick, Chiefs wide receiver Laci Rice chased a Chargers defender from behind and stole the ball. But as he followed from behind, quarterback Mahomes came in and hit Fulton low, hitting Rice's knee.

Rice was immediately removed from the remainder of the game and then ejected from the sideline.

“I feel really bad for Mr. Lachy,” he said. “We will do our best.”

After the game, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Chiefs believe Rice tore his ACL.

“Sources indicate there is concern that Chiefs wide receiver Lachie Rice suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's game against the Chargers,” Schefter wrote. “Additional tests will be performed to confirm the initial diagnosis.”

A formal diagnosis of Rice's knee will be made after an MRI scan on Monday.
