DHS Secretary Mullin holds Newsom responsible for Chinese infiltration in California

Concerns Over Chinese Influence in California Politics

During an appearance on “The Story” this Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin attributed alleged foreign interference in California to the policies of Governor Gavin Newsom. This follows accusations from the Justice Department suggesting that a former California mayor was acting under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party.

Mullin criticized Newsom, stating, “[He] seems more focused on supporting criminals than on the safety of voters.” He expressed disappointment but noted that such incidents, unfortunately, seem to be occurring more frequently.

Indictment of Former Arcadia Mayor

According to the Department of Justice, former Arcadia Mayor Eileen Wang has been indicted for being an illegal agent of the People’s Republic of China. Wang has since resigned. Mullin remarked that California’s sanctuary policies and certain Democratic actions create an environment that encourages foreign adversaries to encroach on U.S. territory.

“These sanctuary cities seem to welcome our enemies—like China, North Korea, and Russia,” he added. The Homeland Security secretary believes that this weakness is being exploited by these nations to infiltrate local communities.

Legal Troubles for Eileen Wang

It was revealed that Wang promoted pro-China views from 2020 until her election. She has agreed to plead guilty, admitting her role was aligned with direction from the Chinese government. Facing the possibility of ten years in prison and a hefty fine, her case highlights the increasing worries regarding foreign influence in U.S. elections.

Upcoming Trump-Xi Summit

This incident emerges as President Donald Trump prepares to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping for a high-stakes summit. Mullin expressed optimism about Trump’s ability to manage the situation, stating he believes positive outcomes regarding Taiwan and nuclear agreements could be achieved.

“China’s not always been a reliable partner, but under Trump’s leadership, there might be a chance to restore a strong position,” he opined, hoping for a positive outcome in the upcoming discussions.
