Long Island man Jeremy Allen fatally beat his friend in a Hamptons home after a night of heavy drinking, then handyman found body after being asked to help clean up the mess, police said.

Defense attorney Colin Astarita told reporters he believed his client, Jeremy Allen, 43, was a longtime acquaintance of Christopher Hearn, 43. Astarita said the two recently resumed contact. news day.

On Saturday morning, Allen reportedly texted the handyman and asked him to help clean up his Long Island home.

When the handyman saw the body, Allen allegedly told him, “I can't leave here. I have to help you clean up the house.”

Tomaro said Allen beat Hearn with a bat for six hours starting in the middle of the night, then pulled out a “large knife” and stabbed his friend in the “head and neck.”

Prosecutors said Allen dragged Hearn's “defenseless and helpless body” onto the patio.

Allen's own home surveillance system reportedly captured the beating and stabbing of Hearn that Allen allegedly carried out.

Southampton police responded to Allen's home at 9:52 a.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a handyman.

Hahn was pronounced dead at the crime scene.

Allen was reportedly arrested about an hour after Hahn's body was discovered.

Allen has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with Hearn's death.

Additionally, Allen was arrested in May while trying to purchase a shotgun. He was unable to do so because of his past convictions.

In addition, Tomaro said Allen has a rape case of a child under 15 pending in Southampton court, according to Newsday.

Prosecutors said Allen had a DUI conviction in 2007 and is currently on probation in Ulster County for a 2022 DUI conviction.

Mr. Astarita said he believed Mr. Hearn had “injected himself” into Mr. Allen's life and suggested that Mr. Allen may be claiming self-defense.

“He was in my house,” Astarita said, but admitted she didn't know what caused the argument.
