Travis Kelce acknowledged the slow start to this year's football season amid continued criticism.
As Kansas City Chiefs tight end and younger brother Jason Kelce broke down the Chiefs' recent win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Jason celebrated, “We finally got it.”[ting] Travis “particularly struggled a little bit” in the first three games, but has been “progressing well” since then.
“[I was] Statistically, we are struggling. I was still playing winning football, and that's all that matters,” Travis clarified on Wednesday's episode of the “New Heights” podcast.
Travis, 34, noted that he had a “solid game” with 89 yards and seven catches, which was significantly higher than the past few games in which he did not exceed 34 yards.
“I took responsibility for this game. I didn't have any drops. I felt like I had a bad game because of that in Atlanta, but I still didn't have a great game. I had a lot to do to have a great game. “We need that,” he explained.
Even though he didn't have the best game of his career, Travis noted, “I helped the team find a way to win, and that's all that matters.”
The three-time Super Bowl champion did not directly address criticism from some fans and commentators that his relationship with Taylor Swift was helping him focus, but said, Everything that is there is just noise,” he repeated.
Travis previously raised eyebrows when he was seen looking downcast on the sideline during a game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 22.
“We're finding ways to win games, but we're not playing our best football,” Travis later admitted on the Sept. 25 episode of “New Heights.”
The “Grotescree” actor admitted that he “doesn't have a lot of opportunities to play on the field” this season as the opposing team's defense is focusing on covering him more than usual.
“I've made a lot of catches in this league, dude. I'm not worried about catches and yards and all that stuff,” he assured his brother.
Travis did not mention Swift's absence for the past two games, but officials recently said she is preparing to return to the Elas Tour and will have security at all games other than her home at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. He also explained that he was having a hard time.
“There are safety concerns if she goes anywhere other than Arrowhead,” a source told us on Monday. “She's worked with Arrowhead many times and they feel safe and comfortable. We have to send teams in advance to go to all kinds of different stadiums.”
