Nets owner Joe Tsai on brink of Dolphins ownership stake

Nets owner Joe Tsai may be rooting for another team soon, as he looks to buy a minority stake in the Dolphins.

Tsai and private equity firm Ares Management are currently in preliminary talks with Miami owner Stephen Ross to buy stock and other assets in the NFL team at a valuation of $8.1 billion. According to Bloomberg.

As part of the deal, Ares will buy a 10% stake in real estate that includes the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium and Formula 1's Miami Grand Prix.

Tsai, who took over the Nets in 2019 and also owns the WNBA's New York Liberty, plans to buy 3% through his family office, Blue Pool Capital.

This equates to about $240 million for Tsai.

He sold his stake in BSE, the parent company of the Nets, Liberty and Barclays Center, to the Koch family over the summer for just over $190 million in working capital.


Nets legend Vince Carter will be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame on October 12th and 13th.

And coach Jordi Fernandez recalled watching highlights of Carter's high-flying performances even when he had to stay up late back in Spain.

“I remember his dunk,” Fernandez said. “Growing up in Spain, the NBA was broadcast late into the night and you had to pay to watch the highlights. There was no social media, smartphones, etc. So I watched the NBA once a week. It had to be a highlight show to watch. I obviously remember him. I bought basketball magazines from Spain at the time. Amari Bailey has an Exhibit 10 contract and will be invited to training camp without a guarantee.

Still, the 20-year-old, who played for Sierra Canyon, UCLA and last season with the Charlotte Hornets, said it was the most fun basketball experience he's ever had.
