New York Times writer Mara Gay said Thursday on MSNBC's “Deadline” that former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will make it difficult to normalize former President Donald Trump's policies. He is a truth teller.”
Gay said, “It's interesting that you're looking at Republican male voters who have been vocal enough. This isn't about strength. It's about not wanting to live in a world that's completely crazy and chaotic. Because, you know, J.D. Vance the other day really did his best to cleanse Trumpism as if it were normal and benign and completely respectable. It's interesting to talk about face politics in a different context. JD Vance is doing his best to bring social status back to MAGA politics.”
She continued, “As long as Republican voters, especially white men and people like Liz Cheney, come out and say this is not normal.” That's not acceptable. I may disagree with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on every issue, but this one, except for the important issue of democracy supporting the rights of other Americans in this election, is this: It's not acceptable. ”
Gay concluded, “I think Liz Cheney as a truth-teller is especially important because as long as she's telling the truth, it's going to be much harder to normalize Trumpism.”
