Moore's lawyers defended her right to withhold testimony, arguing that the former NIH employee was prepared to cooperate with the investigation in other ways.
“Mr. Moore cooperated with and provided her own documents to the Select Subcommittee through her attorney, including expediting FOIA requests for her documents,” her attorneys wrote.

Moore worked at NIAID for more than 30 years, at one point serving as a special assistant to Dr. Anthony Fauci.
She is accused of teaching other NIAID members “tricks” to hide records and avoid FOIA requests.
In an email sent from his personal Gmail account in February 2021, Dr. David Morens, a senior Fauci adviser, wrote, “I received a message from the Feuer woman here that I deleted the email after being feuered and before the search began. I learned how,” he wrote. Most of my previous emails were sent to Gmail and then deleted. ”

The materials requested by the coronavirus subcommittee will provide insight into the NIH's relationship with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is generally believed to be the source of the 2019 coronavirus.
