On Friday's broadcast of Fox Business Network's “Berney & Company,” Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Suh spoke about the decline in manufacturing jobs in the latest employment numbers and the decline in manufacturing jobs in recent reports. Reacting to the trend, he said: Some manufacturing facilities in the country that were closed under the previous administration will be brought online. ” And “you have to build the facility before you can hire people to manufacture things there,” and that takes time.
asked FOX Business Correspondent Lydia Hu.[O]The one sector where we are not seeing an increase in employment is manufacturing, which is a cause for concern. The report found that 7,000 manufacturing jobs were lost in the country. The estimate was 50,000. And that continues a trend of declining manufacturing jobs that is worrying some. According to our good colleague Edward Lawrence, manufacturing is currently losing about 9,300 jobs per month on a three-month average. So what's wrong with American manufacturing? ”
Mr. Sue replied: “It’s no coincidence that manufacturing jobs have increased under this administration, right? Part of the Biden-Harris Invest in America plan –”
Hu interjected, saying, “I think about 160,000 manufacturing jobs have been added under the administration.''
Mr. Su replied: “Additions are important, right? It's inaccurate to say manufacturing hasn't grown. And we've grown it, no coincidence.”
Then Mr. Hu cut in and asked. “So what are the trends now? Why are we seeing a change? It seems like a change, because recently, manufacturing jobs have been trending down every month this year. ”
Mr. Sue replied: “So the reality is that we are now opening up some manufacturing facilities in the country that were closed under the previous administration. When I visited them, I found that people were leaving their communities, leaving their families behind. Jobs that used to require you to go to work elsewhere can now be sent home. But as you say, this is not the end. There is still work to be done on this. Part of the investment agenda in America is the idea that we should be able to make things in our own country again, right? …And before we hire people to make things there, we build facilities. We need more construction jobs. So construction is going on, but these investments take time. And the fact that we've seen them in the last four years. Again, it's not a declaration of victory, it's a declaration of progress. We're moving in the right direction. We need to keep it going.”
