ESPN analyst wants anonymous voter who chose Angel Reese for Rookie of the Year to go public: ‘Stand on it’

Caitlin Clark was named the WNBA's Rookie of the Year earlier this week, which surprised no one. Well, except for maybe one person.

Despite Clark's historic season in which he broke numerous league records, he was not a unanimous choice for the award.

A total of 67 votes were cast, with 66 voting for Mr. Clark. What about the other one? Angel Reese.

Members of ESPN's “WNBA Countdown” panel were surprised that Clark's selection was not unanimous.

“Hats off to Caitlin. It should have been unanimous, but let's stop here.” andraya carter said.

In fact, she didn't stop there. Instead, Mr. Carter blamed the voters who checked Mr. Reese's name and said they should be made clear. WNBA voters are anonymous.

“That's why we want the WNBA to not do anonymous voting,” Carter said. “Because if you're the one with that vote, you should be able to support that vote. And we need to know who you are.

“In the NBA, voting is not anonymous. So we want the WNBA to do a poll so we can see who voted where.”

Jemele Hill slams 'irresponsible headlines' about Caitlin Clark's impact on WNBA ratings before proving her point

There was certainly some controversy earlier in the season after Reese personally broke the WNBA record with 15 consecutive double-doubles.

However, Clark went on his own after the Olympic break, and Rees ended his season early due to injury.

Clark widened his lead in nearly every statistical category in the weeks before and after Reese's season ended. Furthermore, he led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years as the team's leading scorer.

Despite Reese setting the WNBA record for most rebounds in a season (her record was later broken by MVP A'ja Wilson due to Reese's injury), Reese had only three rebounds on a Chicago team that finished the season with 13 wins and 27 losses. He became the second leading scorer. They finished in 3rd place, the worst in the league, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Reese and Clark's reputations, fan bases and long-standing rivalry are tied to their respective races, dating back to their meeting in the 2023 NCAA National Championship Game. Reese and LSU defeated Clark and Iowa, and Reese shared a viral pointing-and-bragging moment that drew intense backlash and support.

This season, Clark's Fever played against Leith and the Sky and won 3 wins and 1 loss. Both were the only rookies to be named All-Stars this year.
