Mark Kelly on Harris: ‘I’m confident she’s going to win Arizona’

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said Sunday he was confident Vice President Harris would win Arizona and the election overall.

In an interview on CNN's “State of the Union,” anchor Dana Bash asked why President Biden won the state by a 24-point margin in terms of demographics four years ago, but why did Harris win the state with almost the same number of Latinos? I asked a senator from a battleground state if he thought so.

Kelly acknowledged that other close races are expected in Arizona in 2020 and 2022, saying, “The polls in Arizona could bounce around a little bit.”

But he argued that Harris is the best person to represent his constituents and that Arizona's Latinos “will benefit tremendously from a Kamala Harris presidency.”

“Harris and Walz stand by their values. They're a lot of middle-class and working-class people. You know, they're not monolithic on issues, but Kamala Harris stands by them and their families. “I care about them,” Kelly said.

Kelly said he hopes that message will resonate even more next month as Election Day approaches.

“Given the way Donald Trump talks about immigrants and people of color, I hope that over the next 30 days that starts to resonate with Arizonans and that she can win the state.

“I'm confident she'll win Arizona,” Kelly continued. “She's going to be elected the next president of the United States. Obviously, there's some work to do in the next 30 days.”

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.

The Arizona Decision Desk Headquarters and The Hill polling average has Mr. Trump leading Ms. Harris by less than a point, 48.7% to 47.9%. Nationally, Harris leads the poll by 3.4 points.
