As of Friday, nearly 300,000 homes and businesses in the United States were still without power, a week after the hurricane struck. The hurricane killed more than 220 Americans and left hundreds more missing. Reconstruction efforts are still ongoing, and some towns are still without aid and can only receive supplies by air.

Nevertheless, Mr. Harris posted to X: “The Lebanese people face an increasingly dire humanitarian situation. I am concerned for the safety and well-being of suffering civilians in Lebanon and continue to work to meet the needs of all civilians in Lebanon.” I will continue to do so.

“To that end, the United States is providing approximately $157 million to the Lebanese people to provide necessities such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation to assist those displaced by the recent conflict. “This additional assistance brings total U.S. aid to Lebanon to more than $385 million last year,” she added.

Americans were outraged by her post, accusing her of being tone-deaf and using money to support civilians in other countries rather than Americans in dire need at home. Some believe she will be defeated in the 2024 presidential election, which will be held within 30 days.

Harris' post came after Secretary of State Antony Blinken posted about aid to Lebanon on Saturday, which also angered Americans.
