We’ve Offered ‘Solutions’ from Start

In an interview on CBS' “60 Minutes'' that aired on Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris, a 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, answered a question about whether the Biden-Harris administration made a mistake in relaxing immigration policies so much. He said: The border issue is a “long-standing issue.” “The policies we've been proposing are about solving problems, not promoting them.” And, “Literally from day one, we've been offering solutions. ”

“60 Minutes'' correspondent Bill Whitaker asked. “I've been covering the border for years, so I know this isn't a problem that started with your administration. But there was [a] The historic flood of illegal immigrants that rushed across the border during the first three years of your administration. In fact, the number of people entering the country has quadrupled compared to last year under President Trump. Was it a mistake to relax immigration policies so much? ”

Mr. Harris replied: And the solution is just around the corner, and we've been providing it literally since day one. ”

“What I wanted to ask was whether it was a mistake to allow that flood to happen in the first place,” Whittaker continued.

Harris responded, “I think the policies I'm proposing are about solving problems, not promoting them.”

Mr. Whittaker interjected: “But on your watch, that number has quadrupled.”

“And today's numbers show that because of what we've done, we've cut the flow of illegal immigration in half, we've cut the flow of fentanyl in half,” Harris said. “But we need Congress to actually solve the problem. need to be able to take action.”
