Tim Walz, Raising Cash with Gavin Newsom, Pushes for End to Electoral College

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), the Democratic vice presidential candidate, called for abolishing the electoral college at a fundraiser Tuesday with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) at his home in Sacramento.

Mr. Walz supports the Democratic Party's “National Popular Vote” campaign, which would give exorbitant powers to large “blue” states and cause presidential candidates to spend all their time in Democratic cities such as New York City and Los Angeles. I will spend it.

In California, this would give Democrats the added advantage of “ballot harvesting,” which would allow individuals to submit an unlimited number of other people's ballots, overwhelming the overall national vote.

politiko reported:

Gov. Tim Walz supports the national popular vote and introduces an electoral college system, as Democrats again fear a scenario in which Vice President Kamala Harris wins the popular vote but fails to secure the presidency. Newly promoted.

“I think everyone knows that the Electoral College needs to be abolished,” Walz said at a campaign fundraiser with California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday afternoon, according to Pool reporters who were present. said. “We need a national popular vote that means something. But that's not the world we live in.”

Walz made similar comments at a previous fundraiser in Seattle, according to the pool report. His comments were a nod to Democrats in 2016, when Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes but fell short of the required 270 electoral votes and lost to Donald Trump. It becomes a painful memory.

The Minnesota governor's support for abolishing the electoral college could be a sign that the Democratic ticket lacks confidence in its chances heading into the remaining four weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign.
