Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was grilling former teammate Gehrig Dieter as he watched the Kansas City Royals play the New York Yankees in the playoffs.

Mahomes, who was wearing Royals gear, mocked Dieter, who was wearing his Yankees best at Kauffman Stadium, and yelled in his face. The Chiefs star's actions went viral during an American League Division Series game, prompting a reaction from Dieter at X.

“Buddy almost got cut in two,” he wrote.

In the end, Dieter, named after Yankees legend Lou Gehrig, had the last laugh. The former Chiefs wide receiver was with the team when they won the Super Bowl in the 2019 season and watched the Yankees win.

Giancarlo Stanton hit the game-winning home run in the eighth inning, giving New York a 3-2 victory and a 2-1 series lead.

Yankees star hits back at Royals fans who heckled him for calling team lucky: “I've never seen anyone boo.''

Stanton's solo shot marked his 12th home run of the postseason in just 108 at-bats. This brings Stanton's total postseason home run to at bat ratio to 9.4. This is the second-best mark in MLB history behind Yankees legend Babe Ruth's 8.6. Stanton and Ruth are the only two players with a ratio below 10.

After the game, Stanton said of his strong playoff run: “This is the biggest moment. We've got to be ready and we've got to want it.” “You don’t always succeed, but you don’t get shocked at the big moments.”

Mahomes did not react to the loss on social media.
