‘They’re giving them drugs’: Parents accuse preschool teachers of giving their kids ‘sleepy stickers’

A group of parents has accused teachers in the Spring Independent School District in Texas of giving preschoolers “sleepiness stickers” – apparently patches placed on the body that release substances such as melatonin.

Melissa Guilford, whose child attends the same school as Lane, said her daughter noticed the patch on Rubiano's photo.

“I showed it to my 4-year-old and he said, 'Yes, this is a sleepy sticker,'” Guilford told WKRC.

Guilford researched the patch online and discovered it contained melatonin and other unfamiliar substances.

Another parent, Najara Abdullah, explained that her 4-year-old son also received a sticker during class.

“They give them medicine to make them sleep and keep them quiet,” Abdullah said.

She noticed that her son had recently stopped eating and was coming home from school with an untouched lunch.

“My son comes home every night. He's awake and not asleep,” she told KTRK.

Abdullah also filed reports with the school and Child Protective Services.

Spring ISD released a statement to KTRK on Tuesday announcing that two teachers have been placed on administrative leave due to a police investigation.

“Spring ISD is aware that two staff members at Northgate Crossing Elementary School are suspected of administering sleep supplements to students on September 24th. The district has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation.''The district takes all allegations of educator misconduct seriously and takes all necessary steps to ensure that students receive an education in a safe and nurturing environment. “We will take action,” the district said.
