Republican Tim Sheehy Walloping Democrat Sen. Jon Tester, 2 Polls Show

Two new polls show Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) rapidly trailing Republican challenger Tim Sheehy in deep red Montana.

Sheehy's summer surge continues into the fall, with the challenger now safely in the lead within the margin of error.

a new york times/Siena Research poll shows Sheehy with 52% and Tester with 44%, an 8 point lead over Sheehy compared to the previous poll.

And in a poll of Montana Republicans, Sheehy has a 51 percent lead to Tester's 45 percent.

Mr. Sheehy, a political novice and businessman and former Navy SEAL, ran in the Republican primary far behind Mr. Tester, a veteran whose name has been on Montana ballots for decades. He has relied on his business acumen and military background, while criticizing Tester and his party's leftward shift as out of touch with Montana.

Mr. Sheehy's appeal appears to have worked.

Trends in Montana are following those in other states with high percentages of working-class voters, with Vice President Kamala Harris weighing heavily in the race, based on polling, spending and reports from the field. The Democratic Party's concerns are growing.

On Monday, Cook Political Report upgraded the Wisconsin Senate race from “Democrat-led” to “strong” as Republican Eric Hovde continues to chip away at his lead over incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.). Converted. Democrats are moving money to Wisconsin for races they thought were safe.

Tester and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) were widely expected to be the most at-risk Democratic senators this cycle. Tester's chances are getting tougher, Brown is not far behind, and Republicans are on the offensive in other states, many of them with similar blue-collar well-meaning members.

The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC closely aligned with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), recently purchased $67.5 million in additional TV, radio and digital advertising purchases in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan. did.
