On Thursday, Israeli forces opened fire on Hezbollah terrorists near a United Nations base, and two soldiers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were reportedly wounded by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) fire.
UNIFIL is to exclude Hezbollah from the area and remove all unauthorized weapons from the area. some The United Nations Security Council resolutions include: 1701 (2006). It has not fulfilled its mission for decades.
Under UNIFIL's watch, Hezbollah turned southern Lebanon into a military zone, using it to attack Jewish and Arab civilian communities in northern Israel and in preparation for an ambitious invasion of Israel's Galilee region.
In a statement, the IDF did not deny that UNIFIL troops were injured, but explained that Hezbollah was intentionally positioning itself near UNIFIL garrisons and that at the time the IDF notified UNIFIL troops to evacuate. It was also mentioned that
The IDF stated:
The terrorist organization Hezbollah operates in and near civilian areas in southern Lebanon, including areas near UNIFIL garrisons.
The IDF operates in southern Lebanon and maintains daily contact with UNIFIL.
This morning (Thursday), IDF forces operated in the Nakoula area, next to the UNIFIL base. The IDF therefore directed UN forces in the area to remain in a protected space, after which UN forces opened fire in the area.
The IDF has occupied a Hezbollah-run village near the border and is removing weapons stockpiled there. It has also destroyed tunnels and rocket launchers installed by Hezbollah over the past two decades with Iranian support.
