Rob Gronkowski stars in American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, an FX limited series about the rise and fall of his former Patriots teammate, as Rob Gronkowski stars in his best friend and commercial shadow, Reis Wohlschlager. He revealed that it is the same actor who plays him. He committed suicide in prison in 2017 after being convicted of murder.
Gronkowski shared the story during an appearance on FanDuel's “Up & Addams” on Thursday. On the occasion, host Kay Adams played a viral clip from the show featuring a scene in which his character, played by Wal Schrager, meets Hernandez, played by Josh Andres Rivera.
“It was definitely over the top,” Gronkowski said. “and [do] You want a fun fact, Kay — that's my best friend Rice. [Wallschleger]the person playing me. I have known him for about 14 years.
“And he was definitely over the top, and I feel like it was a perfect fit for the show, especially when it comes to all the other characters and coaches. [Bill] Just watching Belichick. [Patriots owner] The show also stars Robert Kraft. ”
“Certainly, like I said, it feels overdone. It's a bit of an exaggeration, that's for sure. But that's in terms of how this show is produced from all the clips I've seen. played an important role.”
Belichick and the Patriots parted ways in January after 24 seasons together and six Super Bowl championships.
Gronkowski explained that Walschrager nailed his laughs on the Ryan Murphy-produced series.
“He's actually a good friend of mine and he's my double in all my other commercials and everything else,” Gronkowski said.
“…He was my shadow. He's shorter than me, but he's definitely not as big as me. He's not as nice as me either, but that's okay. I can't stop laughing at him. Yo.”
Wallschlager also played an offensive coach in the 2023 sports comedy 80 For Brady, produced by former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The film follows four friends on a wild journey to see Brady play in the 2017 Super Bowl.
Brady, along with Gronkowski, led the Patriots to a historic 34-28 overtime victory over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI in February 2017, one of the greatest upsets in NFL history.
