Oregon player ejected for spitting on Ohio State foe in Big Ten showdown

Spitting has no place in college football.

But don't tell that to Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden.

Holden was fired after Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun made a play near the goal line in the second quarter of Saturday night's matchup between host No. 2 Oregon State and No. 3 Ohio State. , was sent off for spitting.

NBC cameras captured Holden spitting at Igbinosan in front of officials.

Igbinosan wiped drool off the visor of his face mask, a clear flag and an automatic ejection as per regulations.

After being sent off, NBC cameras caught a distraught Holden walking down the tunnel to the locker room, throwing his helmet, and then taking a knee in frustration at his arduous penalty.

Holden's exit was a huge loss for Oregon State. The receiver, who is in his second year with the Ducks after transferring from Alabama, entered the night as one of the team's top receivers.

Holden had 19 catches for 274 yards in Oregon's first five games, joining the team at 5-0 and undefeated.

He had one catch for 32 yards, but was bounced and removed from the game.

Despite this, the Ducks were able to move the ball against the Buckeyes and held a 22-21 lead at halftime.

This wasn't the first spitting incident in college football this season.

North Carolina State offensive tackle Anthony Belton Tre Williams ejected for spitting on Clemson defensive tackle On September 21, 2024, just before halftime of the Wolfpack's 59-35 loss to the Tigers.

Belton took exception to the way several Clemson players piled on Wolfpack freshman quarterback CJ Bailey after he was waived. In the heated aftermath of the match, Belton spat in Williams' face.
