GREENVILLE, N.C. — Vice President Harris harshly criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday, suggesting he may be hiding so voters don't know the truth about him.
“He refuses to release his medical records. Yay. All the other presidential candidates. [the] Modern times have done it. He has no intention of giving a “60 Minutes'' interview, as candidates from other major parties have done for more than half a century. He is reluctant to gather for a second debate,” Harris said at a rally at East Carolina University.
She further claimed: Why does his staff want him to hide? The question has to be asked: Are they afraid that people will see him as too weak and unstable? ”
Harris publicly shared her medical history on Saturday, saying she is in “excellent health” and has the physical and mental resilience needed to be president, and would do the same for Trump. I put pressure on him. Trump, 78, said in August that he would be “willing” to release his medical records, but he has not yet done so.
The vice president also called on President Trump to participate in the second debate. He closed the door on another matchup before Election Day.
“I certainly believe that Donald Trump is a dishonest person, but I don't think he will be in the White House,” Harris said in Greenville County, where President Biden had a 9-point lead over Trump in 2020. “If they come back, the consequences will be brutally severe.”
The crowd began chanting “Lock him up!”
“Sustain! Here's the problem. Let's leave it to the courts and deal with November,” she added.
She later accused him of spreading disinformation in the aftermath of Hurricane Helen and Hurricane Milton.
Thousands of rally-goers wore glowing wristbands and held placards that read “Vote for Freedom,” “Vote,” “Harris Waltz” and “Iwillvote.com/NC.” Early voting begins Thursday in North Carolina.
Representative Don Davis (D) and Rachel Hunt (D), who is running for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, spoke before Harris. According to the campaign, 7,000 people participated.
Trump leads Harris by 0.7 points in North Carolina, according to a tally by Decision Desk Headquarters/The Hill. Trump won the Tar Heel State in 2016 and 2020, but a Democrat hasn't won it since President Obama in 2008.
Early Sunday morning, Harris attended a Sunday service in Greenville to appeal to black voters. She spoke to fellow worshipers about hurricane disinformation and the Bible's teachings about helping others.
