TV personality Geraldo Rivera cites Trump's “horrible” comments about illegal immigrants and asks how Latino voters with “self-respect” and “self-respect” can vote for former President Trump in November I wondered if that was the case.
“The immigration reform bill was something he didn't embrace,” Rivera said Monday in an interview with NewsNation's Leland Wittert. “I chose to become one,” he said.
“It's horrifying. I don't understand how any Latino with any self-respect or self-respect would go along with this outrage that stains the blood of our country,” Rivera said, adding that he plans to vote. For Harris.
Just recently, President Trump chased migrants in a Colorado city, calling the area a “war zone” and calling for Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “hunt down and arrest every last illegal alien gang member.” He declared that he would be deported from the country. Reports amplified that Venezuelan gangs had taken over an apartment complex in the city.
He also brought attention to the city of Springfield, Ohio, by falsely claiming that Haitian immigrants in the area were eating residents' pets, which city officials say is false. .
During Monday's interview, Wittert interjected to ask Rivera about polls showing Trump gaining more support among Latino voters than he did in 2016 and 2020.
A recent New York Times/Siena College poll showed Harris underperforming among Latino voters. In 2016, 68 percent of Latino voters supported Democratic candidates. In 2020, her approval rating dropped to 62%, and Harris now has 56% support.
In comparison, Republicans are gaining support. In 2016, the Republican Party's approval rating was 28%, and in 2020 it was 36%. Polls show he enjoys 37% support among Latino voters.
“Democrats and Kamala Harris supporters are calling black men who are leaving Kamala Harris, Latinos who are leaving Kamala Harris, saying, 'I don't understand how you're insane. 'I don't know if that's what you're trying to convince me to do,'' Wittert said.
“Instead of just saying they're wrong, isn't it worth considering why these people are leaving Kamala Harris for Donald Trump?” he said. added.
“Yes, I want to be upfront about the fact that I believe the immigration system and the situation at the border represents the greatest failure of the Democratic administration, the Biden-Harris administration,” Rivera said.
Border arrests in December hit a record high. Border arrests in August were 68% lower than the same period last year and near record lows after the Biden administration introduced a policy in June that would suspend asylum cases if border crossings reach certain thresholds. However, it still remained at 3%. Percentage increase from previous month.
Harris, who visited the southern border last month, said she would ask the Border Patrol for more resources. His campaign says that if he is elected in November, curbing the flow of fentanyl into the United States will be his “top priority.”
“What I'm saying is that instead of working together, Donald Trump tried to exacerbate divisions,” Rivera added.
