The officer backed away and attempted to de-escalate the situation by repeatedly giving Wilson verbal commands to “back off!”
The officer, who is trained in crisis intervention, knocked on Wilson's door, police said, adding that Wilson opened the door and immediately shut it. According to police, the officer explained that he wanted to check on Wilson's safety and continued the conversation for two minutes and 45 seconds.
When Wilson opened the door again, she had a knife and immediately assaulted officers outside the residence, police said.

The officer backed away and attempted to de-escalate the situation by repeatedly giving Wilson verbal commands to “back off!” Police said the officer retreated into a dead-end hallway, but Wilson continued to advance toward the officer, still holding the knife.

Police said Wilson struck the officer in the head with a knife, and the officer fired his gun, striking Wilson three times in the upper body.
Police said Wilson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the officer in question was Private First Class Peter Liu, a 14-year veteran of the department, who was placed on restricted duty while the department investigated.

Shortly after the fatal incident, police said Wilson had multiple encounters with officers this year, and Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said Wilson was 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighed about 330 pounds. He explained. WDVM-TV reported.
