Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren criticized the Biden-Harris administration on Tuesday after news broke that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had suggested an arms embargo on Israel over Gaza.
As reported by Breitbart News, Austin's letter to Israel, which included a threat to cut off weapons to Israel unless the humanitarian situation in Gaza significantly improves, was leaked to the media. did.
The letter claimed without evidence that Israel was blocking aid and that the situation was worsening. It also effectively called on Israel to stop fighting Hamas in northern Gaza. (They made no demands on Hamas.)
Oren, who served as an ambassador in President Barack Obama's administration and later accused Obama of creating a rift between the United States and Israel, has maintained a bipartisan stance and sought to stay out of U.S. politics.
But with Israel still under attack and facing the threat of an arms embargo, Oren said he could no longer remain silent.
The Biden administration's threat to halt arms deliveries to Israel unless the “humanitarian situation” in the Gaza Strip improves is deeply worrying. Israel strongly denies the existence of any crisis and is working daily to ensure adequate food supplies to Gaza. I have spent my career striving for bipartisanship, but I cannot afford to remain silent during this fateful time. The administration's decision to abandon Israel in the midst of our nation's existential war calls into question America's credibility as an ally and America's commitment to defending the free world.
Oren stopped short of suggesting Americans vote for former President Donald Trump, but he did suggest that Vice President Kamala Harris was open to an arms embargo against Israel.
