President Trump spoke with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait about how to deal with Big Tech, explaining that there is a fine line between how to deal with it.

“Sometimes you have to fight these threats. … I'm not a fan of Google. They treat me badly. But if you're going to do something like that and put the company out of business? Are you going to put the company out of business? What you can do without breaking the news is make sure it's more fair,” Trump said, explaining that the news is bad because “the news is really fake. That's why,” he pointed out.

“That's something we really have to fix. We have a corrupt press and we have to fix the press,” Trump said, to applause from the audience.

Trump also addressed concerns about handing over technology policy to Elon Musk.

“No, no. I have a lot of respect for Elon. You know, yesterday I saw that rocket ship arrive and go back to where it took off…and I said, 'What the hell? ?’ I was on the phone talking about, I guess, politics and television. The TV is on and I'm watching a big thing with burnt white paint on it. …You see this big, huge tube falling, 10, 20 stories high. I said to the person on the other end of the phone, “Hold on a minute.'' I see something of it—I don't believe it. Nobody else here is the same,” Trump said.

“I watched it fall, and I watched it fall and hit the big lever. … It's getting hot, and all of a sudden … you see the fire start to burn. And I called Elon. I said, “That's the most incredible thing.” I said, “Can Russia do that?” 'no. 'I said, 'Can the United States do that?' “No,” he said, adding that he would put Mr. Musk in charge of cutting wasteful spending.
