Virginia teaching assistant charged with sex crimes, 2nd employee arrested at the school this year

A Virginia education assistant was arrested after a student caught her masturbating at her desk, becoming the second employee at a Fairfax County high school to be charged with a sex crime this school year.

David Scalea, 40, was in a classroom at Langley High School on Oct. 11 when he allegedly began touching himself inappropriately behind his desk. A student noticed the behavior and reported it to the school administrator, who also informed the resource officer.

Scalea was quickly arrested and charged with indecent sexual exposure and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both misdemeanors.

Fairfax County Public Schools suspended Scalea without pay. He has been a teaching assistant at FCPS since 2020.

Two staff members at Langley High School, which has only been open for three months, have now been charged with various sexual acts involving minors.

In August, near the start of the school year, a teacher who also served as the school's football coach was arrested on five counts of sexual solicitation of a minor.

Police said coach David Clay Murray, 48, was communicating with a minor through the cell phone messaging app Telegram when he unknowingly struck up a conversation with an officer posing as a teenage girl. was arrested. Murray allegedly attempted to solicit various sexual acts multiple times while sending messages.

“If you act cocky, Santa might get rough,” Murray wrote in the message, according to the complaint.

“Santa will go crazy with you on his lap.”

Murray's lawyer said his client believed he was communicating with an adult who claimed Murray was “role-playing” a teenage girl.

The headteacher sent a letter to parents confirming their collective dedication to making the school safe and secure, which appears to have helped to give some parents confidence.

“I can imagine this is going to be difficult for Langley to deal with. We love Langley very much, we love our school, but we have to make sure our children are protected and what There has to be something that needs to be addressed,'' said Lisa Durant, the mother of a Langley student. Fox5 DC.

Fairfax County Schools has ensured that rigorous background checks are conducted as part of the hiring process. The district announced last year that it would introduce new measures to conduct continuous background checks on all employees.
