According to the poll, 45% of voters support Harris, compared to 42% for Trump.
The last poll in September showed Harris leading Trump by 3 points, 46% to 43%.
Both results are within the margin of error, and with elections contested in seven battleground states, they offer only a glimpse of who might win in November's election.
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows both candidates trailing in terms of favorability, with neither gaining more than 50% of voters. Forty-six percent of those surveyed had a favorable view of Harris, and 42% said the same about Trump.
The former president holds a slight lead over Harris on issues related to the economy, unemployment and jobs. Forty-five percent of participants said Trump is better equipped to address these areas, and 40% of respondents supported Harris.
The Democratic candidate did a better job of dealing with political extremism and threats to democracy, with an approval rating of 43% compared to Trump's 38%, a 5-point difference. She had a 14 point lead on the healthcare topic.
Party members for each candidate are planning to vote enthusiastically. 81% of Republicans and 86% of Democrats said they were completely confident they would vote in the general election.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online among 938 adults nationwide, including 807 registered voters. Of these, 769 people were considered most likely to vote on Election Day.
Among these likely voters, Ms. Harris held a 3 percentage point lead over Mr. Trump, with an approval rating of 47% and Mr. Trump's 44%. The poll had a margin of error of about 4 percentage points.
