Early voting begins in Iowa, Kansas, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island

On Wednesday, five more states will begin early voting for the 2024 election, joining the remaining states.

A total of 49 states (Iowa, Kansas, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island) and Washington, D.C. have begun early voting.

Here's how to vote in each state:

The working class will come back to Harris, say rallygoers in post-industrial Pennsylvania.

Volunteers disinfect voting booths at a 2020 presidential election polling place in Ankeny, Iowa.

Nevada is one of the most competitive states this cycle

Eternal battleground, definitely Democratic: This is the story of presidential politics in Nevada.

The state has voted for every Democrat running for president since 1992, except for the two elections in which President Bush was on the ballot. However, the average difference in these eight elections was only 4.1 percentage points.

Only six electoral votes are at stake, but they could be important to either candidate. For example, if Harris wins two of the fiercely contested Rust Belt states but loses Pennsylvania, she would have to make up for the deficit with a combination of Nevada and North Carolina.

Nevada has a voting campaign called the Reid Machine, named after the late Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, that targets Democratic voters, especially Hispanics and unionized voters in the Las Vegas area. The aim is to energize the existing hospitality industry workers.

These groups are no longer as overwhelmingly Democratic as they once were. Since 2020, the party has lost 10 points in the Hispanic vote and 7 points in the non-college vote.

Voters supported Republicans in the 2022 gubernatorial race. The election came two years after the coronavirus pandemic devastated the tourism industry. They continued to support Democratic senators.

Republicans are doing well in large rural areas, especially Lincoln County, which Trump won by 71 points in 2020, and other counties in the northeastern part of the state.

The battleground was in Washoe County, home of Reno. Biden won the state by 4.5 percentage points in 2020, making it the closest county to the state.

Nevada ranks high in the FOX News Power Rankings.

Senate races are also on the ballot in the Silver State. Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen is seeking a second term, but is running against Republican military veteran Sam Brown. The Senate race is ranked Lean D.

Iowa voters are finally heading to the polls today. Once a battleground state, it voted for Trump by an 8-point margin in 2020. Iowa is one of the states with a majority of white working-class voters who haven't returned since the first presidential election went to Trump.

A recent Des Moines Register poll raised some eyebrows by showing Ms. Harris trailing Mr. Trump by 4 points, but it will take an extraordinary night for Ms. Harris to reverse that.

Key down-ballot races in today's early voting states

Voting begins today in the four fiercely contested House of Representatives constituencies. For a complete list of competitive races, see the latest Senate and House rankings.

  • Iowa District 1: Second-term Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks won this seat by six votes in 2020, and redistricting gave her an easy victory in the midterm elections, but she won the seat in Davenport and Iowa City districts. We are still in a weak position. Former state Rep. Christina Bohanan is the Democratic candidate. It's a toss-up in the power rankings.
  • Iowa 3rd District:The Southern 3rd Congressional District is represented by Republican Rep. Zach Nunn, who flipped his seat during the midterm elections. This was another close race, with a difference of 2,145 votes between him and his Democratic opponent. This year, he will face Democrat Lannon Buckham, who most recently worked at the Department of Agriculture. This is a lean R race.
  • Nevada Third District: The area roughly borders Las Vegas, but extends as far west as Henderson, Boulder City, and rural Clark County. Democratic Rep. Susie Lee has represented the district since 2019. This year, he will face Republican Drew Johnson. This race is ranked Lean D.
  • Oregon District 5: Finally, Oregon's 5th District stretches from parts of Portland to the Cascades. After Democrats ousted the incumbent moderate Democrat in the primary, Republican Rep. Lori Chavez Delemer flipped the race in the midterms, but it will be a close race in 2024. This time, the Democratic challenger is state Rep. Janelle Bynum. This is also a toss-up in the power rankings.
