Popeyes employee stabs customer in self-defense after dispute over food order, police say

Late Tuesday night, a Philadelphia Popeyes employee stabbed a customer in self-defense after an argument over a food order turned physical, police said. told WPVI-TV.

Police told police the incident happened just before midnight in the 6000 block of North Broad Street. Officials indicated to WPVI that there were approximately eight employees in the store at the time.

The employee has not yet been charged, police said.

“The 28-year-old customer got into some type of altercation with an employee over a food order and began attacking and assaulting one of the employees,” Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small told police. . “Other employees intervened and attempted to push the 28-year-old man out the front door. At that time, the 34-year-old employee who was being assaulted pulled out a knife and stabbed the 28-year-old man.”

WPVI reported that the man was stabbed multiple times in the torso and head.

The man fled after being stabbed, but police followed a blood trail to a nearby home where they found him, police said. According to WPVI, the customer was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is in police custody.

The Popeyes employee remained at the scene and was cooperating with detectives, the department said, but police added that no charges have been filed against the employee at this time.

Police added to WPVI that the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.
