The father of former One Direction star Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy has said his daughter is grieving the sudden and tragic death of her pop star boyfriend.
“She's grieving,” he told a Post reporter Thursday morning from the front door of his family's home in Harrington Park, a leafy suburb in northeastern New Jersey.
“I was up all night,” he said, the emotions of the day evident on his face.
Her daughter Kate, 25, who she calls Caitlin, said she was not home.
“Caitlin's not even here. She's in Florida,” he said.
A neighbor, who did not want to give his name, described the Cassidys as a “lovely family.”
“It's very sad. When I read this this morning, I really felt for them,” he said.
Neighbors also said Kate was a bit of a wild child, sometimes rebelling against her parents' traditional Irish values.
“They're a very nice family, and Kate was a bit of a wild person,” he said. “There's an easement here behind our house, and when she was younger, I used to see her running up to meet her girlfriends. Her parents were very strict, so they He was taking off his jacket.”
A neighbor said of Kate's father: “A nice old-fashioned working-class guy.” And his wife, his mother, is a nice traditional Irish woman who goes back to Ireland once a year. Just nice people, nice families. ”
A neighbor said he was saddened to learn that Payne had jumped to his death from the balcony of a Buenos Aires hotel on Wednesday night after an apparent drug-fueled assault.
“I just don't understand it. How can someone who has everything, a young man in his 30s, throw everything away like that? I just don't understand it.”
Kate Cassidy, who has been in a relationship with Mr Payne, 31, for two years, had traveled to Argentina for a short holiday with her singer boyfriend and returned to Florida before the tragedy.
Cassidy has more than 200,000 followers on both TikTok and Instagram, where she frequently posts about her outfits, food trips, and adventures she goes on with Payne.
