Maine State Police’s Lewiston after-action report points out flaws in deadly shooting

Maine State Police Col. William Ross has requested a review of the after-action report after the shooting that left 18 people dead.

The review, released nearly a year after the shooting, was chaired by Col. Matthew Birmingham of the Vermont State Police and included recommendations for crime scene protocols, software and training.

The report notes that many of the issues identified have been raised previously, but the review notes that in events of this scale mistakes are always made and the review points out those mistakes so that we can learn from them. It was pointed out that only.

“Looking back at the events of the days leading up to October 25, 2023, and the days since, will provide answers to your questions and help you potentially help other survivors, victims, and communities in the future. I hope a lesson is learned: Despite intensive efforts by law enforcement and the Commission, some questions may never be answered, but the limitations of the human condition and the evidence. “Due to the lack of this, the committee was unable to answer all questions clearly,” the report said.

Ross said he and his team will use this as a tool to start making improvements.

“Ongoing training, policy review, and collaboration with partner agencies across first responders is essential and will continue,” the statement said.
