“The View” co-hosts had an exaggerated response Friday to former President Trump's skewering of the show during Al Smith's dinner speech.
President Trump spoke Thursday night in New York at the 79th Annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, a decades-old philanthropic event that brings together a wide range of activists and campaigners. The event has become a political and cultural signature of the election season and is known for energizing election campaigns.
Multiple co-hosts of the show objected to the idea of Trump attending a Catholic charity event, arguing that it goes against actual Catholic values and normalizes Trump as a human being.
Co-host Ana Navarro said, “I think it's pretty offensive to have Donald Trump sit there and pretend that we're making him out to be some kind of upstanding citizen.” he said. “I'm glad we don't have Kamala Harris. Oh, and by the way, Donald Trump got her name wrong 11 times.”

Afterward, co-host Joy Behar quipped, “This program seems to be one of the biggest issues in President Trump's campaign!”
Later, at a dinner party, he showed footage of Trump berating his critics, saying, “This stupid show, 'The View,' is so bad now that I was watching it the other day and thought, But I thought, 'You know what? They really are.' We need to bring Rosie O’Donnell back,” sparking laughter among the audience at the event.
“That show is bad. Those guys are bad. I know all of them, and they're bad news. I want to tell you, and it doesn't work very well. “I want to see it, but it's viewer ratings” is very important. When it doesn't work, it doesn't work. ” he said.
Then Behar silently grumbled, leaning forward and seeming to tease him, saying, “Anyway, I think he's met all of us except Sonny.”
“He's never met me,” Navarro protested. “No, no, no, I don’t know what the hell you’re reading, but I have to tell you, I’ve lived in this country for 52 years, and I’ve lived in this country for 44 years. I never shook his hand, I never kissed him, I never watched his show, I never bought his crappy products, I never voted for him! ”

Co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin rejected his commentary on the ratings, insisting, “We've been number one in the daytime segment for the last four years, so the ratings are fine.”
“Is living rent-free really that fun in his head?” Hostin asked later. “So in this guy's head, we're living rent-free.”
“I'm enjoying it. I'm having fun. And I'm also happy that he admits to watching the show at least three or four times. Thank you. Thank you, Donald. Hello!” she says to the camera. I did.
Presidential candidates from both political parties have attended Al Smith's dinner parties and casually sparred with each other.
Harris was criticized by critics for being the first candidate to skip an event since the defeat of Democratic candidate Walter Mondale in 1984 and instead send a video to the dinner host to play to the audience.
