Kangaroo on the loose in Florida after bear enters enclosure

Residents of a small Florida town were told to keep an eye out for the rarest of lost animals: kangaroos.

“Just when you think you've seen it all, the town of Pearson bursts into life tonight,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote in an Oct. 17 post to X.

Ms Chitwood shared a screenshot of the kangaroo hopping along the road on her Facebook page, Pearson Community Page. Pearson is located in Volusia County, Florida, north of Orlando.

Mr Chitwood followed up the post by saying the kangaroo “reportedly escaped after a bear entered its enclosure” and has not yet been recovered.

“We have been in contact with the owner and are monitoring closely,” Chitwood wrote.

A woman who lives in Pearson told Fox 35 Orlando that she was “stunned” to see the Australian marsupial jumping around.

“So we live in the forest. We see bears and deer, but we don't see kangaroos. We're supposed to be in a zoo,” the woman told Fox 35.

“I mean, it's kind of cool that there's someone here who owns exotic animals, right?” she added.
