Romania Scrambles Fighter Jets over Airspace Breach

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) – Romania launched fighter jets for the second time this week early Saturday after an unidentified object breached its airspace along the Black Sea, the Defense Ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement that the small object was spotted over the Black Sea at around 2:30 a.m., traveling toward Romania, a member of the European Union and NATO.

Romania shares a 650-kilometer (400-mile) border with Ukraine and has long complained about Russian drones entering its airspace as the Russian government attacks Ukrainian targets along the Black Sea and Danube. Ta.

Fragments of Russian drones have also been repeatedly found on Romanian territory near the Ukrainian border.

Two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air Force and two F-16 fighter jets from the Romanian Air Force were dispatched, but they were unable to find the target and disappeared from radar, the ministry said.

On Thursday, two Spanish F-18s and two Romanian F-16s were also dispatched to a similar incident.
