Powerful Tech Billionaires Join Elon Musk in Breaking with Silicon Valley to Support Donald Trump

A group of Silicon Valley power brokers led by Elon Musk are using their wealth and influence to help return Donald Trump to the White House in 2024.

of new york times report A new force has emerged to protect Republican donors from the tech industry, leveraging its wealth and media platforms to secure former President Donald Trump's reelection. The group, which includes Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and David Sachs, represents a powerful class of Republican donors who operate in a different way than traditional donors.

These tech moguls, with their seemingly limitless financial resources and unique media profiles, have publicly shown support for Trump, sometimes even announcing donations on social media. Driven by self-interest and a reactionary worldview, they are funneling money to the Trump campaign and allied super PACs.

Mr. Musk was initially reluctant to publicly support Mr. Trump, but he has taken on a particularly active role. He has secretly set up his own super PAC, “America PAC,'' which has earmarked at least $100 million in funding for a nationwide recruiting effort aimed at getting up to 1 million Trump supporters to vote in key battleground states. The plan is to provide $40 million.

Other members of this new donor base include Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. They are venture capitalists who were formerly Democrats but have soured relations with the party over antitrust enforcement and proposals to tax the wealthy. Crypto entrepreneurs like the Winklevoss twins have also joined the Trump campaign as the industry faces increased regulatory scrutiny. Peter Thiel and his network of disciples and associates like Blake Masters remain some of Trump's strongest supporters in Silicon Valley.

These new donors are different from the traditional donor base that has historically funded the Republican Party. Figures like Musk and Thiel see themselves as visionary founders with a mission to reshape the world. Their businesses transcend national borders and they see themselves as bigger than any political party. Trump's support is a means to an end: creating an environment in which we can pursue our dreams of space travel, brain-computer interfaces, and unregulated digital currencies with minimal government intervention.
