Democrats Fear Kamala Harris Could Lose Close Race

But some Democrats are sounding the alarm after early voting data in Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania appears to favor Republicans. “In Wilmington, they're trying really hard to figure that out,” said the Democratic co-sponsor. morning meeting Dan Turrentine said Tuesday about early voting trends. “If you look at the poor performance of Democrats not only in Nevada but also in Philadelphia and Atlanta so far, we're seeing that in Las Vegas as well.”

“Harris' campaign appears to be struggling with Latinos, black men and young voters,” Turrentine said. “Those issues don’t seem to have been resolved yet… Things like this give you a little bit of heartburn… Nevada is, you know, supposed to be one of our best states. Some of our base voters don’t seem to have much energy right now.”

Early voting is underway and the data is incomplete, but Democrats still point to a lack of momentum. “If this is an atmospheric election, the atmosphere right now is not good,” another strategist told The Hill.

A former Obama administration aide said there is still a chance that Harris could win, but it wouldn't be surprising if she lost.

“It feels like two things are true at the same time,” an aide told The Hill. “It's either… Of course she's always been a flawed candidate, no one likes her, she's tainted by Biden, and all the macro factors have slipped away from Team Blue — It’s becoming an election on borders, economics and foreign affairs.”

“Or, of course, he was a terrible candidate, ran a horribly crazy campaign, did no real ground fighting or fundraising, and then acted like a lunatic,” the aide added. “It's the complete opposite of 2016, where you were like, 'How could something like this happen?' It's like, 'This is natural.' …I don't know which one yet. ”

Harris' camp seems to believe that even if she wins, it won't be a big victory. The same cannot be said for the Trump campaign, which appears to be growing more optimistic about victory.

“Democrats are hoping that Donald Trump doesn't get more than 46% of the vote,” said David Plouffe, a senior adviser to the Harris campaign. said CNN. “That's not reality. His vote share in all these states will be up to 48%. So we need to make sure we hit the winning numbers, but in some states it's 50 wins, 49.5 wins. There is a possibility.”

“Historically, it would be unusual for seven states to have close races of one point or less,” he added. “But I think at this point we have to assume that's a distinct possibility.”
