NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo and former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel clashed Wednesday over whether former President Trump acknowledged his loss in the 2020 election.
“It's over, it's on to the next thing,” Cuomo told McDaniel on his nightly show CUOMO. “Are you really that hesitant?” he asked. . ”
Referring to a lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign challenging the results of that year's election, the host told Republicans: “You took the legal route, and nothing ended up holding up.”
“The group that should have had all the affidavits proving otherwise had to stand in open court and say, 'We don't have that evidence,'” he continued. “Why is it so hard for you guys to say, 'Trump lost, let's move on'?”
McDaniel responded, “Well, I said it. I said it before. He said it. So the reality is that Joe Biden has had the last four years.”
“He never said that,” Cuomo interjected.
“He said so,” McDaniel retorted.
“I know, but that's not the same as saying he lost,” he replied.
“The reality is that many Americans say they wish they had voted for President Trump,” said the former RNC chairman, who resigned from his post in March.
McDaniel's interview with Cuomo was published by NBC News shortly after she was hired, following internal backlash over her comments and role in Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. It was Cuomo's first acknowledged interview since being ousted as a contributor.
