Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led world leaders on Wednesday in congratulating former President Donald Trump on his presidential election victory, calling it “a new beginning for America and a sign of our great alliance with the Jewish state.” “This is a strong recommitment.”

Other world leaders also jumped in to congratulate Trump, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. President Zelenskiy said he hopes he can finally end Russia's war with Ukraine. “I look forward to an era of strong America under President Trump's decisive leadership,” Zelenskiy said.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also said he was keen to work with President Trump following his “historic” victory. “As our closest allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder to protect our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”
Italy's Giorgia Meloni also expressed confidence in even stronger ties, saying that the “unshakable alliance, common values” and “historic friendship… will be further strengthened.”
Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reflected on how surprising Trump's victory was. “They threatened to imprison him, took his property, tried to kill him… Yet he won,” Orbán said.
President Trump has told Prime Minister Netanyahu that he wants the Gaza war to end before he takes office in January.
Pre-election polls showed that Trump had overwhelming support among Israelis.
He had been furious with Netanyahu for being dishonest after he congratulated President Biden after the 2020 election was held in Biden's favor.
The former Trump administration took unprecedented steps to support Israel, including dropping its opposition to West Bank settlements and recognizing Jerusalem as its capital.
