Grocery shopping finally paid off.
An Illinois woman won $1 million from a lottery ticket she bought at a supermarket, but completely forgot about it.
The unidentified woman was shopping at a grocery store in Elmhurst, Illinois, on October 20 when she decided on a whim to win a lottery ticket. According to the Illinois Lottery.
“On my way to see my aunt, I stopped at Jewel to buy groceries and grabbed a Quick Pick Lucky Day lottery ticket before heading out the door,” the lucky woman told lottery officials.
Then she put the ticket in her notebook and went on with her daily life, completely forgetting that she had a ticket.
Lottery officials say the woman matched all five numbers in that Sunday night's drawing: 2-3-24-25-28. But she didn't realize until days later that she had just stumbled upon the mother ore.
“A few days after the drawing, I saw the ticket in my wallet and opened the Lottery app and scanned the ticket to see if I had won,” the Illinois woman told the Illinois Lottery.
“I immediately saw the words '1 million dollars' appear on the screen and was completely shocked. I scanned and double-checked the ticket again and when it said “$1,000,000” again, I immediately started crying. I thought, “This is unbelievable.'' ”

The woman said she was happy to be able to pay for her annual trip to Ireland.
This is the ninth Illinois Lottery player to win more than $1 million this year in the Lucky Day Lottery, according to the Illinois Lottery.
