Democrats are directing their anger at Joe Biden over his loss in the presidential election, accusing him of failing Kamala Harris by not resigning sooner.
They argue that his age, questions about his mental acuity and deep unpopularity put Democrats at a significant disadvantage. They resent being forced to field a candidate that voters have made clear they don't want, and then staying in the race long after it became clear that he couldn't win.
“He shouldn't have run,” said Jim Manley, a close aide to former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. “This is not the time to roll with punches or care about anyone's feelings. He and his staff have done great damage to this country.”
Mr. Biden wasted precious months and suffered a crushing defeat on the debate stage, according to interviews with nearly a dozen officials and party operatives. And by the time he decided to hand over the torch, Harris had too much on his plate and too little time to win his own case.
