As of Thursday afternoon, Republicans had won 209 seats and Democrats had won 196, according to Associated Press projections.
So far, five incumbent members of Congress, three Republicans and two Democrats, are expected to lose re-election.
In California, several races involving Republican incumbents remain so close that they are likely to determine the House majority.

Republican lawmakers in Arizona's three districts, as well as Nebraska, Iowa and Oregon, are also still waiting for results.
Whichever party reaches 218 wins first will win the House majority in the 119th Congress.
But House Republican leaders have touted confidence in their eventual victory, with the top four House leaders already formally announcing that they will hold the same seats in the House majority in January.
“It looks like we're going to take the House and flip the Senate,” House Minority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) told Fox News Digital on Wednesday night. “California remains a key state. You know, in a lot of close races, the incumbent has a narrow lead, but we knew it was going to be close.”

That's a far cry from House Democrats, whose hopes of winning a majority are rapidly fading. Multiple sources told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that Democrats are preparing for Republicans to take full control of Congress and the White House.
But House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said a Republican victory was not a foregone conclusion.
“Who will control the House of Representatives in the 119th Congress has not yet been determined. We must count all the votes and wait until the results from Oregon, Arizona and California are known,” Jeffries said. said in a statement, and also congratulated the president-elect. Mr. Trump.

Republicans are expected to flip three seats as well. One seat will be left open by Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat, to run for the Senate, as well as two Pennsylvania districts held by moderate Democrats.
Republicans are also betting that as of Thursday afternoon, former House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania) is expected to survive his toughest race yet.
