The perception of Nagy is that he was a failure as the Bears' head coach from 2018-21.
But Jones wrote that the passage of time has made his perception of his tenure “even better.”
Nagy had a 34-31 regular season record and his team reached the playoffs twice in four years. He was fired after the team went 6-11 in 2021.
Other than two trips under Nagy, the Bears haven't reached the postseason since 2011.
Despite this, there is a perception that the offensive coordinator role with the Chiefs is not as important a role as head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes are receiving huge praise.
For years, NFL experts have been pushing former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to take the head coaching job.
When Bieniemy made the move to steal the command offensive coordinator job, the Chiefs won another Super Bowl, but Washington's offense did not improve.
Reed told CBS that Nagy actually has a lot of autonomy.
“He does everything,” the Chiefs head coach said. “He runs the offense. It's his job to coordinate the offense. And he's very creative. I've known that since he was the quarterbacks coach, and when he was the coordinator. And you saw it as a head coach in Chicago. And he's coming back here, and I wish them nothing but the best. Just let him go and let him go.”
