Israel warns fans about attending events after Amsterdam attacks; soccer match vs France set for Thursday

Israel issued a warning this week to citizens wishing to attend sporting and cultural events involving Israelis, following an attack on supporters of the country's soccer team in Amsterdam last week.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement saying Israel has received information that pro-Palestinian groups abroad are attempting to harm Israelis in cities including France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Belgium. Ta.

Regarding sports in particular, Israel is scheduled to play France in a UEFA Nations League match on Thursday, with French President Emmanuel Macron expected to be in attendance.

France plans to beef up security in the lead-up to the match, with Paris police announcing on Sunday that 4,000 police officers and 1,600 stadium staff will be working to ensure security in and around the stadium and on public transport.

“The situation and the tension make this a high-risk event for us,” Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez told French news channel BFM television.

“An anti-terrorism security perimeter will be established around the stadium.”

Nuñez added that French organizers were in contact with Israeli authorities in preparation for the match.

These additional measures were taken after Israeli supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv FC were targeted by violence during a match against Ajax in Amsterdam this Thursday. Videos and photos of multiple fights on the streets of Amsterdam have flooded social media.

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon issued an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital on Thursday night.

“A pogrom is being waged against Jews and Israelis in Amsterdam,” Danon said. “2024. This has to stop. The 'globalization of the intifada' was not just a slogan for these sponsors of terrorism. I call on the Dutch government to immediately support all Israelis and Jews. The time has come to confront these brutal mobs with force.”

The incident occurred 13 months after Hamas launched terrorist attacks against Israel, killing and kidnapping hundreds of people.

There has been no talk of the cancellation of this week's match between France and Israel.

French Interior Minister Bruno Letailraud cited the recent Paris Summer Olympics as an example of how people around the world can unite through sport, saying: “For symbolic reasons, we must not concede, we must not give up.'' I don't think so,” he said.
