Jay Glazer defends Michael Strahan amid national anthem controversy

Jay Glazer quickly came to the defense of fellow Fox NFL Sunday host Michael Strahan. Michael Strahan drew scrutiny from corners of the internet on Sunday for standing with his hands clasped in front of him instead of over his chest during the national anthem.

“I've just seen the criticism, [Michael Strahan],” Glaser wrote in a statement: “Let me just say this: I don't know if I have a friend who is more proud of his military roots than Michael, who grew up on an Army base and always talks about what he learned from his father, Major Gene Strahan. I don't know.'' And how his time there shaped him. I used to listen to it all the time and I still listen to it now! ”

Mr. Glaser continued: “But what I personally saw, without much fanfare, is that [Strahan] Donate thousands of dollars in clothing to veterans, including many homeless veterans [as] This is what veterans wear to go to job interviews. ”

Mr. Strahan's father, who served in the Army for 23 years and was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division, has often spoken of his appreciation for veterans.

“This is my hero and my father, Maj. Gene W. Strahan Sr.” Hall of Fame defensive end I wrote on Instagram Monday's post included a photo of her father.

“Thank you to all the veterans and active duty military who bravely risk their lives to protect us every day,” Strahan continued. “Your selfless service is immeasurable.”

Glaser scolded the idea that his co-host's etiquette during the national anthem might have any political overtones.

“I know people are quick to get angry these days, but perhaps the first thing you're wondering is how is this a novel idea?” Glaser wrote. “Ask me if I'm protesting something. When I'm protesting, I want people to know, right? He's not, he's just obsessed with how beautiful the whole moment during the national anthem is, and that… I wasn't thinking about it.

“Before you organize an angry mob, ask the man. And you might even learn all about what he's done for our veterans over the years.”

The inciting incident occurred during a special pre-Veterans Day broadcast on “Fox NFL Sunday” from Naval Base San Diego on Sunday. Strahan was seen with his hands clasped in front of his body for the entire three seconds.

Strahan has not publicly commented on the criticism.
