Gunmen stormed a bar in the central Mexican state of Queretaro and fired indiscriminately into a crowd, killing 10 people and wounding eight others.
The shooting occurred Saturday night at the Cantaritos bar in downtown Queretaro, Queretaro. According to information released by the Queretaro Public Safety Secretary, officers responded to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a shooting at Cantaritos Bar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that four gunmen with rifles arrived in one SUV and fired indiscriminately into the crowd. The gunmen killed 10 victims and injured seven more. The numbers have since risen. After the attack, the perpetrators drove the vehicle to a nearby town where they set it on fire. Investigators said they had one person in custody and turned them over to the state attorney general's office for questioning.
Surveillance video from inside the bar captured the moment of the attack. Video shows patrons at the bar falling to the ground and trying to hide as the gunman fires shots inside.
The motive for the attack remains unclear. But similar shootings have occurred in other Mexican states where rival drug cartels have fought fierce turf wars.
“It could have been my son, a relative or a friend,” said Queretaro Governor Mauricio Curi González, who is coordinating with the military to carry out a rapid response and prevent other similar attacks. he claimed. “This cannot be tolerated in this state.”
