Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts, recently advocated for devoting “every minute” of Congress between now and President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration to confirm dozens of federal judges. Here's what the Republican Senate leadership candidates said:
Republican Sens. Rick Scott (Florida), John Thune (South Dakota), and John Cornyn (Texas) all joined forces with Mitch, who announced earlier this year that he would step down from Republican leadership after the election. McConnell is vying to replace Senate Minority Leader.
Asked if he would allow Warren's Hail Mary approval blitz to pass the Senate, Scott gave the most candid response of the three senators.
After Trump won the election and Republicans flipped Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Montana to secure a Senate majority, Warren Posted Her social media posts about “the way forward” included her pitch for closing on last-minute federal confirmation.
“And Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer must use every minute of the year-end session to confirm federal judges and key regulators, none of whom the next president can remove.” said Warren.
Warren's attempts to sidestep an incoming Republican administration drew mixed reactions from hopeful Republican leaders.
Asked if he would allow Warren's Hail Mary confirmation blitz to pass the Senate, Scott gave the most candid response of the three senators.
“Absolutely not,” Scott told Blaze News.
Cornyn's response was less direct. When Blaze News reached out to his office for comment, we had this to say: pointed He quoted Cornyn to the New York Times in September.
When asked by the NYT about Democrats' year-end sprint to confirm federal judges, Cornyn said, “I'll believe it when I see it.”
“I don't think judges have a lot of time, and I don't see why you would make it easy for them,” Cornyn continued.
Like Scott, Thune strongly opposed Warren's proposal.
“We strongly oppose the Democratic nominee between now and President Trump’s inauguration,” Thune told Blaze News. “The American people have made it loud and clear that they support President Trump's policies and will oppose any effort to thwart the will of the American people.”
