Expert Chris Oler said artificial intelligence (AI) is so highly aware of President-elect Donald Trump's image and name that the phenomenon has been dubbed the “Donald Trump neuron.”
Oler, who is one of the co-founders of an AI lab called Anthropic, according to his blog bio, appeared on the “Lex Fridman Podcast” on Monday.
“There's a very famous result by Quiroga et al. on the grandmother neuron or the Halle Berry neuron,” Oler said. “And we found something very similar in vision models. This was back when I was still at OpenAI, and I was looking at that clip model and it reacted to the same entities in the image. We found neurons, and a specific example is Donald Trump's neurons.”
“I think for some reason everyone likes to talk about Donald Trump. And Donald Trump was very prominent and a very hot topic at the time. So all the things we looked at… The neural network found a neuron dedicated to Donald Trump. He was the only one who had a dedicated neuron at all times. ”
